The Value of a Life – My thoughts on the Residential School System mass grave discovery
This week we are talking about a more sobering topic – The discovery of a mass grave of 215 children at a residential school. We also know this is just the beginning, as over 4000 children went missing in the system.
Remorse and regret, while a good start, if they don’t change us, are nothing more than empty words and emotions. Listen to the webcast and then share your thoughts.
From the truth and reconciliation report and first hand survivor accounts, physical abuse, emotional abuse and sexual abuse was rampant.
This invokes a wide range of emotions. Shock, anger, remorse and more. While apologies and remorse are a start, that alone is not enough. We can not change our history, but we can learn from it and make changes.
The history of our generation is still being written. One hundred years from now, will future generations see us as being any better than or forefathers?
Listen to my thoughts and then please share your own in the comments below.
– What have we learned?
