Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021
Well, the year 2020 is history now and it was quite the roller coaster ride. This week I share my thoughts on 2020 and the new year ahead.
Think back to January 2020, 1 year ago. If anybody told you what was going to happen you probably would have dismissed it as nonsense. Think about all that has changed. A year ago, who would have dreamed this is what the world would look like.
With all that is going on, it is easy to focus on the negative. Sometimes we can feel depressed. Often I catch myself having a pity party and feeling sorry for myself. When this happens I try to focus on the positive things that happened in 2020. For me, these include;
- More time with family and in increased appreciate for the value of family
- Refocus my business for the online world
- Time to work on projects that were on the back burner for a few years
- More time to read and self development
What are the positive aspects you’ve experienced?
What does 2021 hold in store – I don’t know. A new calendar doesn’t magically give us new circumstances. But I do know that those who can adapt to changing circumstances are the ones who are going to thrive.
I have a lot of inner strength, but there are times I feel down, I get weary, and that’s when I turn to God, put my faith and trust in him, knowing when my strength has run out, he will sustain me.
Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
In my reading this morning I read in Isaiah 46 – I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’
When I meditate upon that scripture it tells me that God is not surprised by what is going on. He is in control and will accomplish his purpose through these circumstances.
My encouragement to you for 2021
- Make a list of the things you are thankful for in 2020
- Take time to think of one change you can make in your life that will have a positive impact. Write it down and then write out the steps to make it happen.
We all have good intentions but often turning them into reality is a challenge. That’s why it is important to write it down and plan how you are going to make it happen. We’ll talk more about that in the coming weeks.
