Life Lessons I Learned From Competitive Swimming

In this webcast we continue our series on setting and achieving personal development goals. Today I talk about my venture into swimming for fitness which then advanced to competitive swimming. From this I discovered four very important life lessons that apply to all areas of life.

The four life lessons are:

  1. No excuses – Start where you are – The pool (and life) belongs to those who show up
  2. Personal development is a journey, not a quick trip. It will hurt sometimes, never give up.
  3. Push yourself to go a bit faster and a bit further than yesterday. If you never push yourself you will never change.
  4. Hard work is essential, but so is skill – You need a coach and a trainer.

By applying these principles, over time, I realized that I could do things I previously thought impossible.
